What is your favourite thing about Teddy Hall?

I love the sense of community here, and the homeliness of having a small college site where there are always people around to socialise or study with.

What do you like about the College’s site and location in Oxford?

The churchyard included in the College site can be a beautiful place (odd as that might sound), especially when it’s nice enough in the summer to spend time there. The wisteria that comes out in May which also makes Teddy Hall look really gorgeous.

Why did you choose to study your course?

I’ve always loved reading, and the ability to speak to people who are experts in their field about the reading material was a big part of why I was attracted to Oxford. The College system also helps to create a really cosy, supportive university environment which was another positive for me.

What do you enjoy most about studying your subject?

Probably how open it is to allow us to make our own decisions: I can basically choose whatever topic I want for my essays from within the set historical period. This lets me develop on my own interests a lot, rather than being confined to a set curriculum.

How have your tutors supported you during your time at Teddy Hall?

They’ve really helped me to develop my analytical and critical thinking skills, and encouraged me to read things I probably wouldn’t have otherwise read, particularly older texts.

What’s the best thing about living in Hall accommodation?

I have a really pretty view of the Examination Schools from my window this year, so that’s definitely nice. It’s also convenient to have such a central location in Oxford, as central Oxford and Cowley are both close by.

What do you enjoy most about the food at Teddy Hall?

Knowing that there will always be meals available in College makes studying and enjoying my time here so much easier, and also makes it much simpler to socialise with people on a busy day as I know I’ll at least be able to eat with them.

What do you like most about the Hall’s library?

There’s a great system for requesting books which means I never have to wait long for a book I need if the College Library doesn’t own it (and means I don’t have to spend lots of money buying books I might just use once). Beyond that, the church which holds the Library is a beautiful space – I especially love the stained glass at the back.

How has Teddy Hall supported or shaped your extra-curricular interests?

I lead the creative writing society here at Teddy, which has been a great experience and has allowed me to improve my own writing and make friendships with people in olClege. I have been a part of student newspapers throughout my degree, which has partially been influenced by the opportunities for journalists offered by Teddy Hall, such as the Geddes Prize.

Having received a college award, what impact did it have on your experience?

I have received a few college awards, including winning the Undergraduate English Prize twice. This has really helped to boost my confidence, and the money included in these awards has helped me financially, including helping me to be able to uptake an internship opportunity at The Times last summer.
